Okay, this one is tricky. I have a title that has subpictures. The subpictures show up for a few seconds. When the subpictures shows up, I want to push the select button and have it go to another title, which is a commentary on the first title. When that title is over, I want it to automatically go back to title 1.

Any ideas for me?

Thanks!

myDVDEdit can help you to call each title, but not to split a cell. And that could be necessary if you want come back to the first title at last call position.

First, each 'moments' in title 1 which need a commentary must be in a single cell.

First, go to the Subpictures tab and select an object with a subpicture.
Note on a paper all the color numbers, opacity values and the display area.

Select the first object of this cell and create a new button. To do that, select the Buttons tab and click on New.

Edit the End Selection time: Click the timers disclosure triangle (on the top) and set the End Selection slider to the max value. That should be the cell duration.
Click the triangle again to close this dialog.

Click the button popup menu and select 'Add button'
If you had subpicture, it should have desapeared.

Set the button origin and size values to the subpictures display area.

Now colors must be sets: Click on the Colors disclosure triangle and set selection and action colors and opacity to the subpicture color and opacity
Click the triangle to close the dialog.

Now set the button command. Two possibilities.
- If the commentary title is in the same VTS, the command can be
Code:
Jump VTSTitle n

- If the commentary is in a other VTS, you must jump to a dummy PGC in the VMG Menu
Code:
Call VMG Menu Pgc x
x is a new VMG Menu PGC number that must be created first.

Select VMG Menu and add a new PGC.
Add the Pre-command
Code:
Jump Title m

WARNING: Do not confuse the Title number (index of the title in the DVD) and the VTSTitle number (index of the title in the VTS).

Now, you must add a command to going back to the main title.
There is difficulty. If the cell is also a chapter, you can use the Jump Title or VTSTitle command, otherwise it is much more difficulte.

In the first case:
Select the commentary title PGC and add a post command. As previously, if the main title is in the same VTS, the command is
Code:
Jump VTSTitle 1, Chapter n

If the main title is in a other VTS, you must jump to a new VMG Menu PGC and than jump to the main title with
Code:
Jump VTS 1, Chapter n

Now if main cell is not a chapter. you must use a register as a switch value. I will explain that in a next mail if you need it.

That was mostly helpful. I can get to work as far as pushing the select button and getting from the main title to my commentary title. But I can't seem to get the right commands on the way back.

My commentary title is NOT in the same VTS as my MAIN TITLE, it is in a separate one.

So, I created a new PGC (PGC 3)under the VMG menu.

I added a post command to my commentary PGC JUMP VMG MENU PGC 3

From here I tried to make a pre command JUMP VTS 1 Chapter 2, but was unable to figure out how to make it. It didn't have a jump to VTS/CHAPTER selection. So there I am stuck.

My MAIN TITLE is already broken into cells at the right points to jump to commentarys and back. So i was able to create chapters at the cell breaks.

Or should I being trying the register as a switch value you mentioned?

One more thing, this application is AWESOME! I fixed three other badly mastered DVD's with ease. Once you get it to be able to split cells it will be indespensible!

Thanks!

Yes you right, jump to chapter is only available with vtstitles

The proper solution, but also the more complicated is to use a register.

First, choose a register number. some register could be already used, especialy if you created your DVD with iDvd or DVD Studio Pro (register 0 to 7 are used by these programs)

I will use in my sample register 8 (or R8, or GPRM8)

This register must be reset before the first title is called.

In Pre-cmds of Title 1, add commands like:
Code:
if(R8 == 1) Link Cell 2
if(R8 == 2) Link Cell 7
if(R8 == 3) Link Cell 11

of course, the cell numbers are the cells with a commentary

That is the switch I talk to you.

When the button call the commentary, you should have created a dummy PGC. In this PGC, before the Jump, just add
Code:
R8 = 1

for the first commentary,
Code:
R8 = 2

for the second
etc...

To finish, to call back to the main title, you just have to call title 1. the swith with register 8 will jump to the correct cell.

I'm still not getting it to return, but I'm understanding what questions to ask now.

In the pre commands of title 1 I have 2 commands. (Under ALL PGCS, VTS1)

Subpicture = 0 (on)
if (R8==1) Link cell 2

No post commands.

There was a cell command existing

Link tailpgc, button 1.

Should there be more commands here? Should the cell command be deleted?

In the dummy PGC I created (under the VMG MENU) I have 2 pre-commands

R8=1
Jump title 2

This seems to work fine, as when I click the enter button on the remote, it goes right to the correct commentary title.

And 2 post commands.

R8=1
Jump title 1

And now it just ends like the DVD is over.

So, do i need some additional commands/ Or am I putting commands in the wrong place?

I have more questions, but figured I'd solve one thing at a time!

Thanks!

You should have two dummy PGC under VMG Menu,
The first to call the commentary title with 2 pre-cmds

R8 = 1
Jump Title 2

The second to call back the main title with 1 pre-cmd

Jump Title 1

All your commentary titles must have the same post-cmd

Jump VMG Menu Pgc <the second dummy PGC>

For each new commentary jump, you must add a new dummy VMG Menu PGC with 2 pre-cmds

R8 = <commentary index>
Jump <Commentary title>

and add a pre-cmd in Title 1 to link to the right cell.

YESSSS!!!!!

That worked perfect. Thank you so much for being so helpful and fast with your replies. This is a great program, and now that i understand how it works I can't figure out why I was so confused before. I suppose it's really a matter of understanding how the DVD structure is put together!

Thanks again!

If you like, I'll post a tutorial on how to do this based on your posts and my confusion.
